I saw your comment in my flickr and I've been having trouble posting a message on your blog.
I think with this one you are on the right track. Layers is the key. keep in mind that watercolor is transparent so you can build up darker colors and shades with layers of lighter color.
Keep experimenting along the lines of this one. I mentioned in my flckr how I like you cityscape. I think that would make a great watercolor.
